On January 22nd, the Haight Renaming Committee made a formal
recommendation to the School Board to change the name of our school to
“Love Elementary School”, based on results from community voting in
November 2018. The Board will now hear public comments before making
their final renaming decision in May. If you would like to voice your
opinion, you can attend a School Board meeting (next one is Tuesday, February 12th at 6:30pm) or write school board members. Public comments must be received before April 15th.
Background
On November 6th, Haight students, parents/guardians, and staff voted in a
“primary election” of four name choices. Love Elementary received the
most votes. On November 15th, 70% of voters selected Love Elementary to
be the new name of the school. Voters included staff, students,
parents/guardians, alumni from the past three years, and neighbors and
business owners around the school.
You can see the breakdown of the primary and general election results and the Voter’s Guide description of what Love Elementary represents. See more information on Haight Renaming Process here.
